By repositioning Hopper's Nighthawks in a contemporary Singaporean context, Trang Dang posits a reality where the four figures in the diner try to navigate the closure of their favourite bar following the spread of COVID-19. The four strangers that were once acquainted part ways – the nighthawks no longer visit the bar after hours, but instead purchase alcohol at a nearby convenience store to stock up before the 10:30PM curfew. The bartender drinks away the night in isolation as he can no longer keep the bar afloat due to the economic downturn.

Artist Bio:
Trang Dang is a Singapore-based illustrator and art director whose works span the areas of branding, print and social media content. Currently designing at Goodstuph, she has done work for multiple consumer brands including KFC, EDB, Unilever and Adobe. She enjoys creating colourful slice-of-life illustrations that will hopefully inspire others to pick up a pen and tell their story visually. When she's not drawing, you can find her surfing memes, moshing in a music crowd (well not any longer thanks to Covid) or binging shitty reality tv (this way more thanks to Covid).
