Inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Nadia wanted to create a girl's portrait with an ornament representing South East Asian values. Growing up in Indonesia, she remembers looking at history books and admiring the traditional Indonesian costumes she saw. Influenced by Legong dancers in Bali where traditional dances are still being practiced and considered UNESCO heritage, Nadia's painting represents a dancer in her performance headdress and ornaments.
