In Kopitiam, John Henry chose a busy hawker centre setting to depict one of the many frequent artist blocks he encounters. His depiction of a mishmash of iconic playground stone heads, corporate folks, and even the odd Kaiju (Japanese beast) thrown in, represents his experience of learning to channel the chaos within: his inner turmoil as a modern artist struggling to listen to himself more and find his confidence.

Artist Bio:

John Henry is an ex-art teacher turned full-time illustrator based in Singapore who draws much of his inspiration from all the obscure and old cartoons, TV shows, and video games he used to consume while growing up in both Singapore and Japan. The illustrations serve as a form of therapy for him as he channels his self-deprecating sense of humour in a healthy and mostly aesthetic way. He thoroughly enjoys experimenting with a multitude of art styles as he struggles to build an artistic identity to call his own.
