Nocturno is Salmoncartoon's interpretation of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks. Taking notes from how solitude is represented in Hopper's paintings, Salmoncartoon contextualizes pandemic loneliness with an Indonesian setting. The sole figure in Nocturno is placed in a warung tegal (abbreviated warteg), a food business commonly situated by the roadside that provides affordable meals for the working class. By widening the warteg's windows, the artist magnifies the character's feelings, showing audiences that Indonesians too have their own struggles despite being less individualistic than people from the West.
