In John Singer Sargent's Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose, two girls are depicted lighting Chinese lanterns in the early evening. Isen's reinterpretation Pagsapit ng Pasko replaces those lanterns with glowing Parol lanterns, which Filipinos traditionally use to ornate their abodes with when Christmas season rolls around. The title takes on some wordplay, as pagsapit roughly translates to 'arrival', while also rhyming with the word pagsabit which refers to the act of hanging something. Here, parols are hung around by two girls, glowing in anticipation for the season's warm arrival.
