Telur Mata by Valen Lim

Valen Lim recreates Magritte's The Portrait with a Malaysian twist. In Telur Mata (literally Egg's Eye), a breakfast tableau is presented in a humorous light. The fine dining setting contrasts with the smorgasbörd of local breakfast items; a bottle of kicap (soy sauce) replaces the wine bottle, teh tarik is a mainstay on both sides of the Causeway, and of course, the sunny-side-up and its languid gaze.

Artist Bio:

Valen Lim Chong Chin 林中雋 is a graphic designer and illustrator from George Town, Penang. He dabbles in various fields, such as brand identity, print graphics, typography, and illustration. His works are heavily influenced by local heritage yet emboldened by a modernist flair.
