Twilight Hours is a revisualization of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks. By looking at the original through a Filipino lens and recontextualizing its setting, Cid Gonzales takes the social intimacy found in Hopper’s work and shows us how universal that feeling is. The illustration depicts a Filipino public market during twilight hours, a common opening time for these spaces. Here, carinderias (eateries serving home-cooked meals) transform into nuclei of early breakfasts and warm interaction.
